Judy: Hi Sharon, We're looking forward to hearing from you and your students on Friday but go ahead and begin posting questions as soon as you are ready. Please note the video intro by Dr. Wells above.
Sharon: I am planning to show the video tomorrow and intro the actiivity for Friday. My principal has sent information about the sessiont o our local newspaper and to our district PR person so I may have more than just students and teachers here :0)
Judy: Students and Teachers: You can begin submitting questions here for the Live Session tomorrow with Dr. Wells. The video session will be available as a Podcast after tomorrow.
Sheridan Lafeber: Hi, Judy so I have a question for you and here it is! So why did the Ebola show itself today and not when the first settlers came? It doesn't make sense because people didn't get it like ever since I was born and so why now, why are they getting it now?
AJ: Why did it spread so fast in Africa and only four people here has had it and it didn't really spread? Is it because we have better hygiene here than Africa?
Sydney: How did Ebola first get its start in West Africa? After having this virus in your body, and if you survive, is there a chance of you still carrying the symptoms and having the chance of giving it to someone else?
Lilli: Do you think that the CDC will be able to contain the current cases of Ebola in the United States considering how fast it spread throughout Africa?
Reed Fehseke: How can viruses such as Ebola form. And why is it so devastating, such as killing people, how does it do that, does it block somthing. I would like to know thanks.
Austin H.: i wonder if our containment centers at the cdc are good enough to hold or contain ebola, and it just hit america so we have some time to try to contain it
Mrs K: The student has pointed out to me that the book jacket says very plainly that the strain discussed is airborne, so that is confusing to us. "It is airborne, it is extremely contagious, and it is about to burn through the suburbs of a major American city. Is there any way to stop it?"
Judy: Thank you everyone! I will follow up with Dr. Wells about the Hot Zone book to clear that point up. Ebola is definitely not airborne so that is confusing. Let's keep connecting like this even with some of the tech challenges. We will continue to refine it.
Judy: Thank you again to everyone! Based on feedback, we are planning to have a live SLOG-ITT session every other Friday afternoon. Many thanks to Dr. Wells for the session on Ebola. Her expert guidance in this very important topic was invaluable. Check back often as we will post a schedule of future SLOG-ITT sessions. See you online!
